Which Nile cruises sail on which day

Nile cruising runs on a weekly rhythm, not a daily one. Of 377 published departures across 209 boats, 138 are on a Monday and 109 on a Friday, the two halves of the same loop: south from Luxor at the start of the week, north from Aswan at the end of it. 60 sail on a Saturday, 42 on a Wednesday, and Tuesday and Sunday are nearly empty.

This matters more than it sounds. Most people book flights first, and a boat that sails on the wrong day turns a neat week into two spare nights in a hotel. Below is every boat we list, under the day it actually departs, taken from each operator's own published line. Where a boat states a day but not a port, it is listed under the day and the port is left blank rather than guessed.

Which day do most Nile cruises depart?

Monday and Friday, by a wide margin. Of 377 published departures across 209 boats, 138 are on a Monday and 109 on a Friday. The two are mirror images of each other: 73 boats leave Luxor on a Monday heading south, and 92 leave Aswan on a Friday heading north. 60 sail on a Saturday and 42 on a Wednesday. Can I start a Nile cruise on a Saturday?

Yes. 60 boats we list sail on a Saturday, most of them from Luxor. It is the third most common departure day after Monday and Friday, so a Saturday arrival in Egypt is easy to build a cruise around.

My flight lands on a Tuesday. What are my options?

Only 4 boats sail on a Tuesday, so the usual answer is a night or two on land first: Luxor before a Monday or Saturday sailing, or Aswan before a Friday or Wednesday one. That is not wasted time, since both cities hold a day of sightseeing each that a cruise itinerary tends to rush. Tell us the flight and we will fit a boat around it.

Why do Nile cruises all leave on the same few days?

Because the corridor is a loop. A boat that leaves Luxor on Monday for four nights reaches Aswan on Friday, turns round and sails back for three, so the same hull creates a Monday departure from Luxor and a Friday one from Aswan every week. Multiply that by the fleet and the whole river settles into the same rhythm, which is why Monday and Friday dominate and why the Esna lock queues on the days it does.

Do dahabiyas run on the same days?

Mostly, but the small sailing boats are more flexible and several run on fixed weekly dates from Esna rather than Luxor. 33 of the departures here leave from Esna, which is where the dahabiya fleet starts because the lock there is the practical limit for a boat under sail.
