Overview

Spend an evening afloat on the Nile with dinner, music and Egypt's most hypnotic folk dances. After hotel pickup you board a moored cruise boat in central Cairo and, as it casts off, the lights of Zamalek and the riverside towers begin to slide past the windows. Dinner is an open buffet of Egyptian and international dishes served while you sail, so you eat with the city drifting by on both banks. Then the entertainment begins. The Tanoura is a Sufi-rooted whirling dance in which a performer spins continuously for many minutes in a wide, brilliantly coloured skirt, lifting and turning it into shifting patterns of light — a genuinely mesmerising display of stamina and devotion. A belly dancer follows, moving to a live band whose oud, tabla and keyboard fill the boat with the sound of Cairo by night. Between the food, the music and the passing river, it is a relaxed, festive way to spend a couple of hours and get a taste of Egyptian nightlife without leaving the deck. Round-trip hotel transfers are included, so you arrive, sit back and let the evening unfold as the Nile carries you through the heart of the capital after dark.
