Sharm el Sheikh Areas and Nightlife Guide (2026)
Naama, Hadaba, Sharks Bay, Nabq, Montazah and Old Sharm compared on reefs, walking, drive times and rates, plus Farsha, the Old Market and SOHO at night.
Quick answer: Stay in Naama Bay if you want to walk out of your hotel to dinner, a sandy beach and nightlife. Pick Hadaba (Ras Um El Sid) for value, shore reefs, Farsha Cafe and a five minute drive to the Old Market. Choose Sharks Bay for a reef in front of your resort, and Nabq for big all-inclusive family resorts close to the airport. Montazah suits upscale all-inclusive stays near SOHO Square, and Old Sharm is where you go in the evening for the Old Market and Al Sahaba Mosque, not somewhere to base yourself.

Naama Bay: walk to everything
Naama is the area to choose if you want to step out of your hotel and walk. A pedestrian promenade runs the length of the bay, lined with cafes, shisha coffee houses, restaurants, bazaars, bars and dive centres. It is Sharm's classic night walk: go after sunset when the heat drops, and ask for the drinks menu, because drinks outside hotels are taxed and can be expensive. The trade off is the reef: the central bay has little coral, so for snorkelling from a pontoon go next door to Garden Bay.
On 17 October 2026 Naama's median (US$109, roughly EGP 5,670) was the second lowest after Hadaba's and well below Sharks Bay, Nabq and Montazah. For its bars, clubs, casinos and where to stay, see our Naama Bay guide.
Hadaba and Ras Um El Sid: reef, value and Farsha
Hadaba is the clifftop suburb south of Old Sharm, with the Ras Um El Sid headland at its tip: a mix of hotels, expat homes and local streets.
The coast here is reef, not sand. At Ras Um Sid a narrow reef flat with giant clams ends in a drop-off roughly 20 yards (about 18 m) from the beach. You can enter by ladder from a small pier at El Fanar Beach, where a June 2024 report gave an entry of about US$10 per person (not a current price; ask on the day), or swim about 270 yards east from the public beach for free. Currents can be strong along the cape and there is no lifeguard, so snorkel with someone.
Hadaba had the lowest median rate we saw on 17 October 2026 (US$98, roughly EGP 5,100), and it is the shortest drive to Ras Mohammed. Farsha Cafe sits above the public beach at Ras Um Sid, and Il Mercato is on this side of town too.
Sharks Bay: a reef at your hotel
Sharks Bay is a stretch of coast just south of the airport where the fringing reef comes right up to the shore. The descriptions we read are older, so check with your hotel: there is no public beach, beaches are terraced and man made, and you reach the water by a jetty or pontoon over the coral.
It suits snorkellers who want to swim from their room, and couples on a resort holiday. There is no promenade, so evenings mean a taxi or the hotel bus. Rates ran higher than in Naama or Hadaba (median US$172, roughly EGP 8,940).
Nabq Bay: resorts, families and the mangroves
Nabq is the long resort strip north of the airport, starting about 10 km past it. You come here for large all-inclusive resorts with pools and a short transfer, not to walk out in the evening.
House reefs vary a lot. One north Nabq hotel reef described in 2023 had a sandy beach, a small buoyed swim area and mostly damaged coral, so ask your hotel what is in front of it before you book for snorkelling. North of the resorts is the Nabq protected area, known for its mangroves.
Older guides call Nabq the cheap option. On 17 October 2026 its median was US$164 (roughly EGP 8,530), well above Naama and Hadaba, though rooms started around US$45.
Montazah: the quiet upscale corner
Montazah is the small neighbourhood east of the airport, between Sharks Bay and Nabq on the Ras Nasrani side. It has no walkable strip, and SOHO Square is the nearest evening hub. We could not find a source describing its shoreline, so check beach and reef access with your hotel. The seven hotels we could place here were mostly upscale (median US$181, roughly EGP 9,410).
Old Sharm: for the evening, not the stay
Old Sharm, also called Sharm El Maya, is where the Old Market is. Its small cove has beaches mostly taken by hotels, and we could place only one hotel inside it, so treat it as an evening out. Most nearby rooms are on the Hadaba slope one to two kilometres away. Do not expect a centuries old souk: most of Sharm was built in recent decades.
Farsha Cafe (Farsha Mountain Lounge)
Farsha is the evening most visitors to Sharm ask about: a cafe, bar and shisha lounge built down a cliff on several levels above the Red Sea at Ras Um Sid. You walk down a staircase into the rock, then sit on floor cushions and rugs among lanterns and old country furniture. CairoScene listed it in September 2025 among Egypt's most photogenic cafes.
- Hours: reported in late 2024 as 11am to 1am daily; not confirmed by the venue, which publishes no hours.
- When to arrive: well before sunset for a seat at golden hour; the lights come up after dark. Going earlier is also quieter.
- Alcohol: reported in 2024 to serve wine and cocktails; not confirmed by the venue.
- Entry, dress code, kids: Farsha publishes no minimum charge, dress code, kids or entry policy. Flat shoes help on the stairs.
- Last checked: 17 October 2026.
The Old Market and Al Sahaba Mosque (Old Sharm)

The mosque you see in photos of the Old Market is Al Sahaba Mosque, not Al Mustafa. Tours often mix the two up. Al Mustafa is a separate, larger mosque in the Hay El Nour district and the largest in Sharm; Al Sahaba is the second largest (Ahram Gate).
Al Sahaba opened on 24 March 2017, its foundation stone laid in January 2011, and it faces the sea with a South Sinai mountain behind it (Youm7). It holds about 3,000 worshippers and has two 76 m minarets; its style mixes Ottoman, Fatimid and Mamluk elements (Egyptian Streets, May 2022). It keeps a library and leaflets in several languages, and two imams, one English speaking and one French speaking, look after foreign visitors (Ahram Gate).
Building the mosque also renovated the market around it, with new paving, cafes and shops. In May 2022 the governor announced a redevelopment of the square and a new "Masr El Qadima" section ahead of COP27 (El Watan).
- Hours and entry: the market is an open public area with no published shop hours. The mosque publishes no visiting hours or dress rules for non Muslim visitors; dress modestly and ask at the door.
- When to arrive: in the evening, when the night city tours stop here.
- Last checked: 17 October 2026.
SOHO Square
SOHO Square is a purpose built entertainment complex at White Knight Bay, between the Savoy, Royal Savoy, Sierra and Grand Oasis hotels, per its own site. Some listings place it in Sharks Bay or Ras Nasrani; it is the same place. Inside are restaurants, cafes, bars, a nightclub, shops and a British style pub, the Queen Vic.
- Hours (posted by SOHO): dancing fountain 8pm to midnight; ice skating 4pm to midnight; bowling (six ten pin lanes) 4pm to midnight; kids' arcade 4pm to midnight; most restaurants 6pm to midnight.
- Entry: no entry fee published; you pay for what you do.
- Kids: strong for families: arcade, soft play, slides and a ball pit, a carousel and fair rides, and the ice rink.
- Alcohol: yes, bars, the pub and a nightclub. Smart casual at L'Entrecote steakhouse.
- Last checked: 17 October 2026.
Hollywood Sharm El Sheikh
Hollywood Sharm is a night time entertainment complex (as described in 2015) about five minutes from Naama, its white HOLLYWOOD sign visible from Peace Road. Cairo360's February 2015 review describes film themed statues, light and fountain shows, a 7D cinema and cafes, aimed at families. We could not confirm that it operates in 2026, or its hours or prices, so ask your hotel before you go.
Il Mercato
Il Mercato is a restaurant and shopping street next to the Il Mercato Hotel in Hadaba, named after the Il Mercato Hotel, and busy at night with international chains and local restaurants. Drinking options are limited, and we found no official site or published hours. It works for a cheap, easy dinner near Hadaba hotels.
Three evenings in Sharm
Sunset and the market (Hadaba or Naama base). Reach Farsha well before sunset, stay for the lights, then take a short taxi (about 8 minutes) to the Old Market and Al Sahaba Mosque for dinner.
A family night (Sharks Bay, Montazah or Nabq base). Bowling, the arcade or ice skating at SOHO Square from 4pm, an early dinner from 6pm, then the dancing fountain from 8pm.
Naama on foot. Walk the promenade after sunset, shisha in a coffee house, then pick a bar with our Naama Bay guide, which covers the clubs too.
Getting there with a driver
A tour with hotel pickup takes the taxi haggling away. Lowest listed price, checked 17 October 2026 (dollars approximate at 52 EGP):
- Sharm el Sheikh tour by night: from EGP 1,734 (about $33).
- City tour: Old Market, Al Sahaba Mosque and Farsha Cafe: from EGP 1,439 (about $28).
- Farsha Cafe and SOHO Square with a private car: from EGP 1,410 (about $27).
