Iberotel Lotus Boat Day Cruise to Dendera Temple

Overview

You will travel by Nile cruise from the Iberotel Lotus to one of Luxor’s lesser-known highlights: the well-preserved temple of Dendera. As you explore the site, you will learn that the complex is dedicated to the goddess Hathor. She was one of ancient Egypt’s most important and popular deities, linked with music, joy, dance and motherhood, and often called the lady of the sky. Along the way you will see architectural and decorative features that reflect her role in daily and ritual life. One of the main festivals held at Dendera celebrated the Egyptian New Year. Historically, on the night before the new year a statue of Hathor was placed on a shrine on the temple roof to receive the first rays of the sun. That ritual symbolically renewed and rejuvenated the goddess.
