Overview

Four days and three nights aboard a full-board Nile cruiser carry you from Luxor upstream to Aswan, with the great temples of Upper Egypt as your stops and the changing riverbank as the view between them. You board at Luxor and begin with the East Bank giants, Karnak and Luxor Temple, before the boat settles in for dinner on the water. The next morning belongs to the West Bank, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut's temple and the Colossi of Memnon, and then you cast off south, passing through the lock at Esna as farmland, palm groves and fishing skiffs slide by. Edfu brings the best-preserved temple in Egypt, the falcon-god sanctuary of Horus, and Kom Ombo the unusual double temple shared between Sobek the crocodile god and Haroeris. The cruise ends at Aswan, the country's gentlest city, where you see the High Dam, the island temple of Philae and the Unfinished Obelisk still lying in its ancient quarry. An onboard Egyptologist guides every excursion, meals are served on board, and the sundeck is yours for the slow stretches between sites. It is the classic way to see Upper Egypt without repacking your bag each night.
