In Egypt, what you pay depends less on where you are than on what you do. Across more than 29,000 distinct bookable experiences, the median price is about 4,025 EGP (roughly $82) per person — but that number hides an enormous range. A camel ride or an airport transfer runs under 1,800 EGP; a multi-day Nile cruise sits near 48,500. Here is the going rate for every kind of thing to do, and what actually moves the price.

What each type of experience costs in Egypt

Per person, medians across 29,710 distinct bookable experiences (June 2026 snapshot), at about 49 EGP to the US dollar.

The cheap end — under about 2,500 EGP ($50)

The most affordable things to do are short, local and on the water or in the sand. Airport transfers (1,685 EGP) and camel or horse rides (1,702 EGP) are the cheapest of all, and they carry some of the highest ratings on the whole list — simple experiences that reliably deliver. A felucca sail or Nile dinner cruise comes in around 2,070 EGP, and the Red Sea staples — desert safaris and quad biking (2,182 EGP), snorkelling and island boat trips (2,328 EGP) and scuba diving (2,425 EGP) — all cluster just above 2,000 EGP. If you are travelling on a budget, this is where your money goes furthest.

The classic day tours — 3,000 to 6,000 EGP ($65–$125)

The bucket-list days sit in the middle. A Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx tour has a median of about 3,298 EGP; add the Grand Egyptian Museum and it climbs toward 3,880 EGP. Over in the south, a Luxor and Nile-temples day — Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut — runs a median near 5,700 EGP, reflecting how much ground these tours cover. Broad day trips and excursions average 6,212 EGP, since many are long resort-to-sight runs.

The splurges — 12,000 EGP ($245) and up

Three experiences stand apart. A sunrise hot-air balloon over Luxor starts around 4,800 EGP (~$98) on its own, but most listings bundle it with a Valley of the Kings day, which lifts the median to about 12,125 EGP. An Abu Simbel trip runs a median near 14,501 EGP, largely because most travellers fly in from Cairo or Aswan — the cheapest road-convoy options start closer to 6,200 EGP. And a multi-day Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan tops the table at about 48,548 EGP for a typical 3–4 night sailing, which buys your cabin, all meals and guided temple stops along the way.

How to pay less for the same experience

Two levers move the price more than the activity itself. The first is where you book: for comparable tours, the big international platforms can be up to about 1.8× more expensive than the cheapest option. The second is which city you base in: the same kind of day out can cost almost three times more in Aswan than in Hurghada. We collect live prices for every bookable Egypt experience across seven platforms — Booking.com, Viator, Tripadvisor, GetYourGuide, Musement, Headout and direct Egyptian operators — and this analysis uses a June 2026 snapshot of 29,710 distinct listings after removing duplicate locale versions of the same tour. Each is grouped into an activity type from its listing title, and we report the median price (which ignores a handful of luxury outliers rather than letting them skew the average). Prices are per person in Egyptian pounds, converted at about 49 EGP to the dollar. We refresh the data as we re-scrape, so the figures track the market over time.
