Korea travels to Egypt in style, mostly in groups. There is no regular year-round nonstop between Seoul and Cairo, so nearly everyone connects through a Gulf or Istanbul hub, and the big Korean operators wrap those seats inside escorted 9-day itineraries covering Cairo, Aswan, Abu Simbel and Luxor. If you would rather build your own trip, the visa is easy for Korean nationals and the sightseeing season lines up neatly with Korea's autumn and winter holidays. Here is how to plan it.
Getting there from Seoul
There is no regular year-round scheduled nonstop from Seoul Incheon (ICN) to Cairo (CAI), so you will connect through a hub. The fastest routing is usually via Istanbul at around 16 hours; other common one-stops run via Dubai (Korean Air plus Emirates), Abu Dhabi (Etihad plus EgyptAir) and Beijing (Korean Air plus EgyptAir). For the winter 2026 season Korean Air did operate a seasonal nonstop charter, roughly one flight a week from mid-January to mid-February on a Boeing 777-300ER, but those seats were sold bundled inside package tours and it is unverified whether the route becomes permanent.
Connecting economy round-trips have been seen from roughly USD 243 to 336 in low season on the fare aggregators. Treat that as a starting band and verify live prices when you book, since availability and season move it a lot.
Visa for Korean passport holders
This part is simple. Korean nationals appear on Egypt's visa-on-arrival list (about 46 countries) and are also eligible for the online e-Visa. The traditional visa on arrival is a single-entry tourist sticker bought at the airport, historically around USD 25 (verify the current amount). The e-Visa is USD 25 single-entry or USD 60 multiple-entry after an April 2026 increase; a single-entry is valid 90 days for a stay of up to 30 days, and you should apply at least about a week ahead through the official portal at visa2egypt.gov.eg.
From 1 August 2026 Cairo airport is piloting a digital visa on arrival: eligible nationalities generate a QR code for a total USD 36 (USD 30 plus USD 6 issuance), valid 48 hours from generation, at Cairo only during the pilot. Korea is expected to be eligible but confirm before you rely on it. Your passport needs at least six months validity and a blank page.
Packages and independent trips
The Korean market is strongly group-driven. Hana Tour built a Korean Air direct-charter product, a 9-day / 7-night "Egypt loop" running weekly on Wednesdays across five departures from mid-January to mid-February 2026, with tiered grades and seat-class upgrades, priced from about KRW 5,099,000 (verify). VeryGoodTour sells an all-premium-hotel Cairo-direct package, and Here Travel runs a 7-night semi-package with a September departure timed to Chuseok. If you prefer to travel independently, the core is always Cairo plus a Luxor-Aswan Nile cruise; our Nile cruise guide walks through the choices.
Best time to go
Egypt is at its best from October to April, with daytime highs around 25-30C in the shoulder months and cool evenings, while summer can top 45C in the south. That maps well onto Korea's holidays. Chuseok, late September in 2026, sits at the leading edge of the good season (still warm), while the winter charter window and Seollal (Lunar New Year, mid-February) land in Egypt's cool peak, the best weather match of the year.
Money and staying healthy
Egypt runs on the Egyptian pound, roughly 48-52 per USD in early 2026 (verify daily). Korean won is poorly exchanged locally, so carry clean USD or EUR notes or draw from ATMs (CIB, NBE, HSBC give the best rates); cards work at hotels and larger venues, but keep small notes for taxis, souks and constant tipping. On health, the CDC commonly recommends Hepatitis A and typhoid for most travellers plus routine vaccines; avoid tap water and unpeeled food, do not swim in the Nile, and see a travel clinic four to six weeks before you fly.
Questions fréquentes
Is there a direct flight from Seoul to Cairo?
Not as a regular year-round route. Travellers connect through a hub, fastest via Istanbul at around 16 hours, or via Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Beijing. Korean Air ran a seasonal nonstop charter for winter 2026 (about one flight a week, mid-January to mid-February), but those seats were sold inside package tours and it is unverified whether the route becomes permanent.
Do Korean citizens need a visa for Egypt?
Korean nationals can get a visa on arrival and are also eligible for the online e-Visa. The e-Visa is USD 25 single-entry (USD 60 multiple-entry after April 2026), valid 90 days for a stay up to 30 days. Apply at the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, at least about a week ahead. Always verify current fees.
What is the new Cairo digital visa on arrival?
From 1 August 2026, Cairo airport is piloting a QR-code visa on arrival: eligible travellers generate a code for a total USD 36 (USD 30 plus USD 6 issuance), valid 48 hours, at Cairo only during the pilot. Korea is expected to be eligible, but confirm before relying on it.
When is the best time to visit Egypt from Korea?
October to April, when daytime highs sit around 25-30C. That lines up with Chuseok (late September, at the warm edge of the season) and especially Seollal and the winter window in mid-February, which fall in Egypt's cool peak and give the best weather.
How much does an Egypt package from Korea cost?
Escorted Korean packages such as Hana Tour's 9-day Cairo-direct product have listed from about KRW 5,099,000, with premium and save tiers. Land-only Nile cruise packages start lower. Prices move with season and grade, so verify current pricing with the operator.
What should I book for a first Egypt trip?
The standard first-timer trip pairs Cairo (Giza pyramids, Sphinx, Egyptian Museum) with a Luxor-Aswan Nile cruise taking in Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel. Korean operators sell this as an escorted 9-day loop; independent travellers can book the same components. See our Nile cruise guide for how to choose a boat.
