Overview
From your Aswan hotel or Nile cruise, a NASCO Tours representative will meet you and accompany you to a felucca for a peaceful sail around Elephantine Island on the Nile. You will visit the island’s Botanical Gardens, which boast plants from around the world, and enjoy calm river views as you move around the island. Along the way, you will hear about the island’s role in history, including its use by Lord Kitchener’s campaign in 1899 and the origin of its name, the “Lord’s House.” Following his passing, the island became an agricultural site, and you will notice the contrast between cultivated areas and the surrounding river landscape. The outing will finish with a return to your hotel, leaving you with a clearer sense of this small but historically significant part of Aswan.
