Overview

This day tour takes you to some of Egypt’s oldest sites, with monuments that date back around 5,000 years. You begin at Saqqara, the ancient necropolis, where you will see the Step Pyramid — the earliest large stone structure, attributed to the architect Imhotep — and the pyramids of Tetti and Onas. As you move through these layers of early Egyptian history, you will learn about funerary architecture and early royal burial practices. You will also visit the ancient capital of Memphis, where you will see the massive statue of Ramses II and the alabaster statue associated with Hatshepsut, the female pharaoh. Later you will go to Dahshur to view the Red and White Pyramids; the Red Pyramid is noted as the first true pyramid shape, and you will be able to see the Black Pyramid of the Middle Kingdom from a distance. Along the way, you will enjoy a local lunch in an Egyptian Beduin restaurant, offering a chance to sample regional flavours between the archaeological visits.
