Overview

There is no view in Egypt quite like the one from the saddle at the edge of the Giza Plateau, and this two-hour ride is timed for the softest light of the day. You meet at a stable on the desert side of the pyramids - away from the ticketed plateau and its crowds - and are matched to an Arabian horse suited to your experience, from an easy walk to a canter for confident riders. A guide leads you out across the open sand to the high dunes behind the monuments, where all three pyramids and, on a clear morning, the Sphinx line up against the horizon. At sunrise the stone glows pink as Cairo wakes; at sunset it burns gold and the sky behind the pyramids turns to fire. The pace is yours to set, with plenty of stops for photographs at the classic panoramic angles that are hard to reach on foot. It suits beginners and seasoned riders alike, with a short briefing and a helper on hand throughout. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, along with the horse, guide and time for pictures. Long trousers and closed shoes make for a more comfortable ride.
