What to expect Valley of the Kings This UNESCO World Heritage site served as the burial ground for Egypt’s New Kingdom pharaohs over 3,000 years ago. The valley is renowned for its richly decorated tombs and the legendary resting place of Tutankhamun. Features Royal tombs : Visit three royal tombs, each adorned with detailed wall paintings and hieroglyphs that reveal ancient beliefs about the afterlife. Pharaoh’s legacy : Learn about the burial rituals and the significance of the Valley as the final resting place for rulers like Ramses II and Tutankhamun (optional entry, extra cost). Temple of Hatshepsut Carved into the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari, this mortuary temple honors Queen Hatshepsut, one of Egypt’s few female pharaohs. The structure is celebrated for its innovative design and historical importance. Features Terraced architecture : Admire the temple’s three-tiered terraces and colonnades, a striking example of ancient Egyptian engineering. Queen’s story : Hear the remarkable story of Hatshepsut’s reign and her impact on Egyptian history, as told by your expert guide. Colossi of Memnon Pause for photos at these two colossal statues, which have stood guard for over 3,400 years at the entrance to the lost temple of Amenhotep III. Features Iconic statues : Each statue stands 18 meters tall, offering a glimpse into the scale and artistry of ancient Thebes. Historical landmark : The Colossi are among Luxor’s most recognizable monuments, famed for their endurance and mysterious “singing” at dawn in antiquity.

We had a fantastic tour of the Valley of the Kings with our great guide Omran. He was incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating and brought us for a lovely coffee before the tour started to explain the history of the area. His English was very good. After the tour we had a lovely buffet lunch which was included. I would highly recommend him.
