On this tour we experienced both: very touristic and not touristic activities. We started the food tour not being hungry (because the breakfast at our hotel was amazing and a bit late). So first, our guide took us around Egyptian sales points: paintings on papyrus, perfume, cosmetics, spices, clothes, and leather. It was interesting, and we could stay shorter and longer. Somewhere we could talk to people, which was interesting for us. Being between these spots and driving felt super unique for us because we could observe local street life. This so-called food tour was an absolute scam, and I’m deeply disappointed with how we were treated. Having experienced pushy guides in Cairo before—where they force you into shops to buy overpriced goods—we made it crystal clear to our guide, that we were here for a food tour only. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The “food tour” was a joke. Our guide spent most of the time on the phone with his manager, leaving us in the car while he went to buy food and brought it back for us to eat there.
