Overview

So many visitors to Cairo experience nothing more of Egyptian food than tedious mixed grills and heavy international buffets. Discover the real Egypt with a local foodie guide on a private food tour of Cairo. Over a series of tastings at authentic Egyptian eateries, try three or four different dishes then enjoy some Egyptian tea. If you like, follow with the classic hookah water pipe.

Ask for Ahmed! He made our first day in Cairo a success. He spoke very good English, easy to understand, very upbeat and enjoyed sharing the history of his lovely. It’s as he took us along our tour. We had several food stops that introduced us to such dishes as koshari, falafels, hibiscus drinks & teas. We were taken to several local shops the papyrus and perfumery stops were my favorite. You are show how papyrus is made and taken through many of the oils/scents that are used for both medicinal and sensory enjoyment. Everyone we came in contact with met us a warm smile, greetings of drinks and

We saw parts of Cairo no tourist would see. Our guide was punctual, polite, friendly, and offered us choices of mainstream or pure local food. We went for the local abs weren’t disappointed!

I booked this "food tour" in April 2019 and between then and the date of the tour, 23rd May, I received 61separate WhatsApp messages from the person organising this "tour". Anybody who has been to North Africa or parts of The Middle East will be familiar with being hustled by street vendors. You know the sort, they just will not take no for an answer. You walk off but they follow you down the street hustling, hustling, hustling. This was the modern, digital, equivalent of the same thing. Literally within minutes of booking the "tour" he had whatsapped me offering other tours, accommodation etc

Raafat my guide was in time and was very friendly. He is NOT the reason why I gave 3 stars. As soon as I booked, I received 14 messages from the tour operator pushing me more tours which I found very annoying. I almost cancelled the tour right away just because of the level of insistence. I did a lot of food tours in my life (and in different countries around the world) and it was not at all what I was expected. You get picked up in a car and the guide drives you around the city to try food. The guide also wants you to stop at other touristy spots like a spice market, papyrus museum, etc.. whi

This was a nice tour. We enjoyed the food and the guide was nice. He altered the tour a bit as we had seen a few things already and he added in a spice market that was really nice. However, the operator as well as the tour guide himself sent me two messages a day to please leave them a. review. This was at the start of our vacation and I wasn't going to stop and write reviews in the middle of my vacation. They both literally hounded me daily asking for reviews and then asking me to tell them when I sent it. It was very annoying!

Guide Raafat has a contagious smile and took me around town and sampled local food, juice, Egyptian tea from Cairo back ally eateries and food stands while mingle with the local folks. This is not for you if you are interested in hotel air-conditioned restaurant setting. Local guide would probe for shopping interests which is understandable. Raafat does listen and was flexible and accommodating to my interest.
