Egypt is a realistic long-haul trip from Manila, but two things need attention before you dream about the pyramids: there is no direct flight, and Filipino travellers should arrange the e-visa before departure rather than count on getting one at the airport. Get those sorted and the rest is straightforward, with a peak October-to-April sightseeing window and well-priced land packages built around Cairo and a Nile cruise. Here is how to plan the trip from the Philippines.

Flights from Manila

No airline flies nonstop between Manila (MNL) and Cairo (CAI), so every routing connects through one or two hubs. The natural choices are the Gulf carriers via their home bases: Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha, Etihad via Abu Dhabi, Oman Air via Muscat, Gulf Air via Bahrain, and Saudia via Riyadh or Jeddah. EgyptAir does not currently serve Manila, so Filipinos usually fly a Gulf or Asian carrier rather than a single-carrier EgyptAir routing. Total journey time runs roughly 14 to 18-plus hours depending on the connection, for example about 14h50m one-stop via Muscat.

Economy round-trips land in a band of roughly USD 700 to 1,050-plus (about PHP 40,000-60,000-plus), with the cheapest fares seen around USD 700 on Gulf Air and Philippine Airlines combinations; business class starts near USD 1,964. The reported best-fare window is around 40 days out, with Tuesday often the cheapest purchase day. Treat all of this as indicative and verify at booking, since the peso conversion is approximate.

Visa for Filipino passport holders (arrange it first)

Filipino citizens need a visa for Egypt, and the online e-Visa is the standard route. It is commonly listed at USD 25 for a single-entry tourist visa, maximum 30-day stay, 90-day validity from issue, with processing of up to about seven days. Apply only at the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, to avoid third-party markups.

One important nuance: some sources note that Filipino nationals (among a few others) must remain in the transit zone when transiting Egypt, which points to stricter handling. The safe reading is that Filipinos should not rely on a visa on arrival and should hold a pre-approved e-visa before travel. Treat this as sensitive and confirm directly with an Egyptian consulate or the official portal before booking. The new 1 August 2026 Cairo digital visa on arrival (a QR-code option, USD 36, valid 48 hours) runs alongside the paper system and does not change nationality eligibility, and whether Filipinos may use it is unverified, so default to the e-visa. Carry a passport with at least six months validity beyond your stay.

Packages and prices

Egypt is sold to Southeast Asia mainly as Cairo plus a Nile cruise: Giza pyramids, Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, then a Luxor-Aswan cruise taking in Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel. Indicative land-package bands (excluding international air) run from about USD 550 for a 4-day/3-night Aswan-to-Luxor cruise, about USD 670 for a 5-day/4-night Luxor-to-Aswan, and around USD 1,009 for a roughly 9-day Cairo plus sleeper-train plus cruise budget trip. Most Filipinos book through Egypt-based inbound specialists selling in USD, or global cruise brands at a premium; few Philippines-based operators specialise in Egypt. Our Nile cruise guide explains what the cruise segment includes. Verify current prices with the operator.

Best time to travel

Prime season is October to April, mild at roughly 20-28C and ideal for sightseeing, with February-March and October-November the sweet spots for good weather and thinner December crowds. June to August is hottest (Luxor and Aswan hit 40-43C) but cheapest for flights and cruises; December to February is peak and priciest; March-April can bring khamsin dust winds. Philippine school breaks around April-May and late December overlap the shoulder-hot and peak seasons respectively, so families often travel then despite the heat or higher prices.

Money and health

Egypt uses the Egyptian pound. Cards work at hotels and larger venues, but carry cash for tips (baksheesh), small vendors and taxis, plus some USD for the e-visa or VOA fee. Cross-check PHP-to-USD or EGP rates before you go, since airport and hotel counters are usually worse than banks or ATMs. No vaccine is legally mandatory for most travellers, but Hepatitis A and typhoid are the most recommended; keep routine vaccines current. A yellow-fever certificate is generally only required if you arrive from a yellow-fever-risk country, which a Gulf-hub routing from the Philippines would not normally trigger, but confirm for your exact itinerary. See a travel-health provider four to six weeks before departure.

Common questions

Is there a direct flight from the Philippines to Egypt?

No. There is no nonstop between Manila and Cairo, so you connect through one or two hubs, usually a Gulf carrier via Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Bahrain or Saudi Arabia. Total journey time is roughly 14 to 18-plus hours depending on the connection. EgyptAir does not currently serve Manila.

Do Filipinos need to arrange an Egypt visa before flying?

Yes, that is the safe approach. Filipino citizens need a visa, and the online e-Visa (commonly USD 25, 30-day stay, 90-day validity) is the standard route via visa2egypt.gov.eg. Some sources say Filipinos must stay in the transit zone when transiting Egypt, so do not rely on a visa on arrival. Confirm directly with an Egyptian consulate before booking.

Can Filipinos use the new Cairo digital visa on arrival?

It is unverified. The 1 August 2026 QR-code visa on arrival (USD 36, valid 48 hours) runs alongside the paper system and does not change nationality eligibility. Because Filipino eligibility for any visa-on-arrival path is uncertain, plan to hold a pre-approved e-visa instead.

How much does an Egypt trip from the Philippines cost?

Economy flights run roughly USD 700 to 1,050-plus round-trip (about PHP 40,000-60,000-plus). Land packages, excluding air, start from about USD 550 for a 4-day/3-night Nile cruise, USD 670 for 5-day/4-night, and around USD 1,009 for a 9-day Cairo-plus-cruise budget trip. Verify current prices at booking.

When is the best time to visit Egypt?

October to April, when it is mild at around 20-28C. February-March and October-November are the sweet spots for good weather and fewer crowds. June to August is hottest (40-43C in the south) but cheapest, and March-April can bring khamsin dust winds.

Do Filipinos need a yellow-fever certificate for Egypt?

Generally only if you arrive from a yellow-fever-risk country. A typical Gulf-hub routing from the Philippines would not normally trigger it, but requirements depend on your exact itinerary, so confirm for your routing. Hepatitis A and typhoid are the most commonly recommended vaccines.
