Your driver collects you from your Aswan hotel in the early morning for the long drive south toward Lake Nasser.
- 2Desert drive to Abu Simbel
Travel roughly three hours by air-conditioned car across the Western Desert to the temples on the lakeshore.
- 3Great Temple of Ramesses II
Stand before the four colossal statues of the pharaoh, then follow your guide inside through pillared halls carved with the Battle of Kadesh.
- 4Temple of Nefertari
Visit the smaller temple Ramesses dedicated to his queen and the goddess Hathor, its facade unusually showing Nefertari at the king's scale.
- 5Lake Nasser and the relocation site
Look out over Lake Nasser and see how the whole complex was lifted block by block to higher ground in the 1960s.
- 6Return to Aswan and drop-off
Drive back across the desert to your Aswan hotel in the afternoon.
