Egypt is a long-haul cultural trip for most Canadians, and it rewards the effort: the Pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor and Aswan, and a few slow days on the Nile. This page lays out how you actually get there from Canada, what the visa costs, and what a fair price looks like, so you can book one of the tours below with your eyes open rather than guessing.

Getting there from Canada

EgyptAir flies the only nonstop from Canada to Cairo: Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Cairo (CAI), flight MS996, roughly five times a week, with a block time around 10h25 (verify current schedules). Air Canada does not fly the route nonstop. From Toronto, Montreal and other cities you can also connect on one stop through a European or Gulf hub with carriers like Lufthansa, SWISS, Turkish, Royal Air Maroc, ITA, British Airways or American. There is no confirmed Canadian charter program direct to the Red Sea, so if Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh is on your list you will route through Cairo or a hub. Aggregator low fares on Toronto–Cairo start from around C$700 return but swing widely by season and routing, so price early and verify before you commit.

Visas for Canadian passport holders

Canadians can apply for an e-visa before travel through the official portal only, visa2egypt.gov.eg, or get a 30-day visa on arrival paid in cash, US dollars only. The Government of Canada notes on-arrival entry may cost between US$60 and US$100 depending on your plans, though the base tourist visa is commonly cited at US$25–30. From 1 August 2026, Cairo Airport is rolling out a self-service digital visa on arrival at US$36 (including a US$6 service fee), paid by card. If you enter overland at Taba and stay within Sinai, a 14-day visa-free stamp is available. Your passport must be valid at least six months beyond your departure. Costs shift, so verify on the official portal before booking.

What tours cost

Canadian travellers are served by operators like Goway, Exoticca, Egypt Tours Plus and global brands such as Intrepid, and the products centre on Cairo plus a Nile cruise. Goway advertises Egypt packages from around US$3,249 per person, with higher tiers near US$4,729 and US$5,072. Mid-range trips run roughly US$200–350 per person per day (about C$275–475). Most packages are land-only: your Canada–Cairo flights, the visa, insurance, some meals and gratuities are usually excluded, while 5-star hotels, the cruise, an Egyptologist guide and private transport are typically included. Treat every figure as a range and verify current pricing.

When to go

The best sightseeing weather is October to April, with pleasant 20–30°C days. December to February is the busiest, priciest peak, and March–April can bring khamsin dust and wind. For milder weather with fewer crowds, March–May or September–November are strong picks. Canadian demand clusters around the winter escape, March break and the Christmas holidays, so book those windows well ahead.

What to book

If it is your first trip, a Cairo-and-Nile-cruise combination covers the headline sights in one loop: Giza, the Egyptian Museum, then Luxor and Aswan by boat. The cruise is the part most first-timers remember, so read our Nile cruise guide before you choose a ship or a season. The tours in the grid below are bookable now and pair well with the EgyptAir nonstop or a one-stop connection.

Money and staying healthy

Egypt runs largely on cash. Cards work in upscale hotels, restaurants and tour bookings, but you will need Egyptian pounds for souks, taxis, street food and tips, and clean US dollars for the on-arrival visa and larger guide tips. The Government of Canada recommends being up to date on routine vaccines and, depending on activities, Hepatitis A and others; the WHO declared Egypt malaria-free in 2024. Comprehensive travel insurance with medical and evacuation cover is strongly advised.

常见问题

Do Canadians need a visa for Egypt?

Yes. Canadian passport holders can apply for an e-visa in advance at the official portal visa2egypt.gov.eg, or buy a 30-day visa on arrival paid in cash in US dollars only. From 1 August 2026 Cairo Airport also offers a self-service digital visa on arrival at US$36 (including a US$6 fee), paid by card. A 14-day visa-free stamp applies for Sinai-only stays via Taba. Verify current rules before you travel.

How long is the flight from Canada to Egypt?

EgyptAir runs the only nonstop, Toronto (YYZ) to Cairo, flight MS996 about five times a week with a block time near 10h25. Air Canada and others connect on one stop through a European or Gulf hub from Toronto, Montreal and beyond. There is no confirmed Canadian charter direct to the Red Sea, so Hurghada or Sharm is reached via Cairo or a hub.

How much does an Egypt tour from Canada cost?

Goway advertises Egypt packages from around US$3,249 per person, with higher tiers near US$4,729 and US$5,072. Mid-range trips run roughly US$200–350 per person per day (about C$275–475). Packages are usually land-only, so add your Canada–Cairo flights (aggregator lows from about C$700 return), the visa and insurance. Verify current prices on the operator's site.

When is the best time to visit Egypt from Canada?

October to April offers the best sightseeing weather, with 20–30°C days. December to February is the busiest and priciest peak, and March–April can bring khamsin dust and wind. For milder weather and fewer crowds, aim for March–May or September–November. Canadian demand peaks around the winter escape, March break and Christmas, so book early.

How many days do you need in Egypt?

Given the long-haul flight, most Canadians spend at least 7–10 days so the trip is worth the travel time. A common shape is a few days in Cairo for Giza and the Egyptian Museum, then a Luxor–Aswan Nile cruise. Mid-range packages run about US$200–350 per person per day, so length drives a lot of the total cost.

Is Egypt safe, and what should I book first?

The Government of Canada advises comprehensive travel insurance with medical and evacuation cover and being up to date on routine vaccines; Egypt was declared malaria-free by the WHO in 2024. For a first trip, book a Cairo-plus-Nile-cruise itinerary covering Giza, Luxor and Aswan. Read our Nile cruise guide before choosing a ship, then book one of the tours below.
