Kom Ombo & Edfu Temples from Luxor

Genel bakış

Two of the best-preserved temples on the Nile lie on the road south from Luxor toward Aswan, and this full day pairs them with a licensed Egyptologist guide. Setting out in the morning, you drive down the fertile valley, sugarcane fields and palm groves with the river never far off, to Edfu, home of the Temple of Horus. Dedicated to the falcon-headed god, it is the most completely preserved pharaonic temple in Egypt: its towering pylon, colonnaded court and dark inner sanctuary look much as they did two thousand years ago, with a black granite statue of Horus standing guard. From Edfu you continue upriver to Kom Ombo, unique for its perfectly symmetrical double design, one half honouring the crocodile god Sobek, the other the falcon god Haroeris. Set right on the Nile's bank, it holds a wall of carved surgical instruments and a small museum of mummified crocodiles pulled from the surrounding sands. Your guide brings the reliefs and the mythology to life at each stop before the drive back to Luxor. Entry tickets are arranged for you, so your time goes on the monuments rather than the queues. Bring a hat, water and sunscreen, as both sites are open and sun-exposed.
