Egypt Tours from Germany

Egypt is one of the easiest big trips to reach from Germany. Hurghada sits about four and a half hours from most German airports, the warm-winter calendar lines up neatly with the German off-season, and from 1 August 2026 arriving with a German passport got simpler still. Getting there: charter to the Red Sea, scheduled to Cairo

Germany is one of Egypt's largest Red Sea source markets, and it shows in the flight map. Hurghada (HRG) is the primary leisure gateway, reachable non-stop in roughly 4.5 hours, with Air Cairo, Condor, Corendon, Eurowings, Nesma Airlines, Nile Air and TUI fly all flying the route, frequently from Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. For Sharm el-Sheikh (SSH), Corendon and TUI fly serve Düsseldorf non-stop, and TUI fly has announced a new Frankfurt–Sharm route from June 2026 (verify before booking).

Most Red Sea leisure seats are sold as charters bundled inside a package. If your trip is culture-first, fly scheduled to Cairo (CAI) instead: EgyptAir, Condor, Lufthansa and Air Cairo all offer direct Frankfurt–Cairo flights, with Lufthansa running roughly 20 weekly departures. The route takes about four hours, and return fares have been seen from around €317 up to the €450–€490 range (meta-search figures — verify live).

Visa for German citizens

German passport holders need a tourist visa, and there are two easy routes. The official online e-visa runs about US$25 single-entry or US$60 multiple-entry; the single-entry version is valid 90 days from issue with a 30-day stay, the multiple-entry for six months. Apply at the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, about a week before you travel, and skip third-party sites that add a markup.

The bigger news for 2026: from 1 August, Egypt is piloting a digital visa-on-arrival at Cairo International Airport — a QR code replacing the old paper sticker — at a total of US$36 (a US$30 visa fee plus a US$6 issuance charge). Paper stickers stay available during the pilot, with other airports to follow. Whichever route you use, your passport must be valid at least six months beyond entry with blank pages (figures as of 2026 — verify).

What a trip costs

The classic German product is the Pauschalreise: flight, hotel and transfer bundled, usually all-inclusive on the Red Sea. Best time to go

The German beach season on the Red Sea runs autumn through spring, with February and November the cheaper shoulder months where the weather stays warm. For a combined Cairo and Nile culture trip, winter (November to February) is the most comfortable window, with daytime temperatures around 15–25°C. Prices and charter capacity spike over German school holidays — the summer Sommerferien, plus Easter and autumn breaks — so shoulder months are where the value sits. Red Sea or the Nile — or both

The two Egypts appeal to different moods. The Red Sea is the reliable all-inclusive beach week: sun, reef snorkelling and short transfers, ideal if you want to switch off.
