For Belgian travellers, Egypt splits neatly into two trips: a cultural run to Cairo and the Nile, and a winter-sun escape to the Red Sea. Brussels is the natural gateway for both. EgyptAir flies the only non-stop scheduled service to Cairo, while TUI fly Belgium, Brussels Airlines and Corendon carry beach-goers straight to Hurghada and Marsa Alam. Add a simple EU e-visa and a package market built around all-inclusive resorts, and Egypt is one of the easiest warm-weather trips to organise from Belgium. Here is what to know before booking.
Flights from Brussels
Brussels (BRU) is the primary Belgian gateway. EgyptAir is the only carrier flying non-stop to Cairo, with about five flights a week (flight MS726) on a block time of roughly 4h20. One-way EgyptAir fares generally fall between about 265 and 975 USD, while returns have been advertised from around 182 USD on aggregators; convert to euro and verify at booking.
For the Red Sea, Brussels Airlines, Corendon and TUI fly run non-stop Brussels-Hurghada, roughly six flights a week combined, at about 5h25. TUI fly Belgium also sells non-stop Brussels service to Marsa Alam, Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh. Charter and leisure capacity into Marsa Alam is growing for winter 2026. Direct scheduled service to Cairo is limited to EgyptAir, so other routings (via Istanbul, Frankfurt, Munich or the Gulf) mean longer total journeys.
Visa for Belgian travellers
Belgian citizens are not visa-exempt but qualify for both the e-visa and visa-on-arrival. Use only the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, and avoid third-party sites that charge three to five times the fee. Following an increase on 27 April 2026, the single-entry tourist e-visa is reported at 30 USD (65 USD multiple-entry); some sources still list the older 25/60 figures, so confirm on the portal. Single-entry is valid about three months from approval for a stay of up to 30 days.
From 1 August 2026, Cairo Airport launched a digital visa-on-arrival for around 46 eligible nationalities including EU citizens: a QR code generated before departure, in flight or on arrival, total cost 36 USD (30 fee plus 6 issuance), with the QR expiring 48 hours after generation. It is a pilot, so paper stickers remain available. If you fly straight into Hurghada or Marsa Alam, the e-visa or paper visa-on-arrival applies there; the Cairo QR pilot does not yet cover Red Sea airports.
Packages and prices
Belgian leisure demand is served largely by TUI (TUI fly Belgium plus TUI holidays) and Corendon, centred on Red Sea all-inclusive beach weeks in Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Sharm El Sheikh. Beyond the beach, three product types dominate: all-inclusive resort weeks; Nile cruises between Luxor and Aswan sold as fly-to-Cairo or fly-to-Luxor cultural tours; and cruise-and-stay itineraries that add a Red Sea extension. A standalone 4-day, 3-night Aswan-Luxor cruise segment has been advertised from about 550 USD as a cruise-only reference. Verify actual package pricing in euro on TUI Belgium and Corendon's own sites, as figures from other markets are not a reliable proxy.
If the cruise is the part you care about, our Nile cruise guide covers routes, ship standards and what a strong itinerary should include.
Best time to go
The Red Sea is a year-round sun destination. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) give the best balance of warm-but-comfortable air and warm sea. Winter (December-February) is mild and sunny at around 20-23C, the core winter-sun window, while July-August is very hot at 35-40C. Sea temperature ranges from about 22C in February to 28-29C in August. Belgian demand clusters around Carnival and spring half-terms, Easter, the summer break, the late-October Toussaint break, and Christmas/New Year.
Money and health
Egypt is cash-heavy: cards work at resorts, upscale hotels and for tours, but you need Egyptian pounds for souks, taxis, street food and tipping. ATMs give near-interbank rates but often cap withdrawals around 5,000-10,000 EGP a day. Budget roughly 50-80 USD per person per day in cash for tips and incidentals on cruise and tour trips. No vaccines are legally required, though Hepatitis A and Typhoid are commonly recommended; arrange them four to six weeks ahead and check FPS Foreign Affairs advice before booking.
Veelgestelde vragen
Are there direct flights from Brussels to Egypt?
Yes. EgyptAir flies the only non-stop scheduled Brussels-Cairo service, about five times a week (flight MS726) at roughly 4h20. For the Red Sea, Brussels Airlines, Corendon and TUI fly run non-stop Brussels-Hurghada about six times a week combined at around 5h25, with TUI fly also serving Marsa Alam, Luxor and Sharm El Sheikh. Verify schedules at booking.
Do Belgian citizens need a visa for Egypt?
Yes. Belgians are not visa-exempt but qualify for both the e-visa and visa-on-arrival. The single-entry tourist e-visa is reported at 30 USD after the 27 April 2026 increase, via the official visa2egypt.gov.eg portal only. From 1 August 2026 Cairo Airport offers a 36 USD digital QR visa-on-arrival to EU nationals. Verify current fees on the official portal.
Does the new Cairo digital visa cover Red Sea airports?
Not yet. The Cairo QR visa-on-arrival pilot that launched on 1 August 2026 currently applies at Cairo Airport. If you fly straight into Hurghada or Marsa Alam, use the online e-visa or the paper visa-on-arrival sticker available at those airports. Confirm current coverage before you travel.
How much does an Egypt package from Belgium cost?
Belgian pricing should be checked directly on TUI Belgium and Corendon's own sites in euro, as other-market figures are not a reliable proxy. As a cruise-only reference, a standalone 4-day, 3-night Aswan-Luxor Nile cruise has been advertised from about 550 USD. Package prices are seasonal and promo-driven, so verify before booking.
When is the best time to travel to Egypt from Belgium?
The Red Sea works year-round. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) give the best balance of comfortable air and warm sea. Winter (December-February) is the mild, sunny winter-sun window at around 20-23C, while July-August is very hot at 35-40C. Sea temperature runs from about 22C in February to 28-29C in August.
What kinds of Egypt trips can Belgians book?
Three main types: all-inclusive Red Sea beach weeks in Hurghada, Marsa Alam or Sharm El Sheikh; Nile cruises between Luxor and Aswan sold as cultural tours flying into Cairo or Luxor; and cruise-and-stay itineraries that pair a Nile cruise with a Red Sea beach extension. TUI and Corendon are the main operators for the Belgian market.
