Eid 2027
Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 March 2027 and Eid al-Adha on Sunday 16 May 2027, each with a holiday of three or four days in Egypt. Both are good times for a family Nile cruise or dahabiya: meat on board is generally halal, Eid prayers are held at mosques a short walk from the moorings in Luxor and Aswan, and some dahabiyas sell no alcohol at all. Book early, because Egyptian and Gulf families travel at Eid and hotels in Luxor and Aswan fill. Eid al-Fitr falls in pleasant spring weather; at Eid al-Adha in mid-May it is already hot.

Choosing
For no alcohol around you, choose a dahabiya that sells none, such as Iris or Hadeel, or charter a whole dahabiya so the boat is just your family. Large ships have family suites and connecting cabins. Nile cruise ships run about US$120 to US$1,500 per person per night and dahabiyas about US$140 to US$1,500 across the year. See Nile cruises for Muslim and Gulf families, family rooms and private dahabiya charter.
Mid-May
In mid-May, temples are best at dawn and late afternoon, with the middle of the day on board. Choose a boat with a pool and shaded deck, and a cabin with good air conditioning. The shorter three- and four-night sailings suit the holiday length well. See when to go and Egypt's holidays in 2027.
