Before departure, Google Maps showed the west route would take just 3 hours and 11 minutes, and both the east and west routes were available. However, the driver took the east route, despite our hotels being on the west. He explained (via a translation app) that the insurance doesn’t cover the west route, while the agency claimed the west road was closed. Our hotel in Aswan denied this.
