Overview

This experience begins in Cairo with pickup from your hotel and travel to the town of Saint Catherine in the Sinai Peninsula. The town sits at the foot of the Sinai High Mountains at an elevation of about 1,600 metres. You will check in to the Saint Catherine tourist village, where dinner is included. You will make an early-morning climb of Mount Sinai (also known as Biblical Mount Horeb or Jebel Musa) to watch the sunrise. Tea and coffee are provided before the walk up the mountain, and the ascent is on foot to a sunrise viewpoint. After watching the sun rise, you will descend to visit Saint Catherine’s Monastery, the oldest continuously inhabited monastery in the world, built on the site associated with the Burning Bush where Moses (Prophet Musa) spoke with God. Mount Sinai is the mountain traditionally linked with Moses receiving the Ten Commandments. Following a morning visit and breakfast, you will return to Cairo and be taken back to your hotel. The experience focuses on the landscape, the climb to the summit for sunrise, and the early-morning visit to the historic monastery.
