Trip to Nubian Village by Motorboat
A trusted partner experience, hand-picked and featured on This is Egypt.
Overview
Visiting Nubian communities along the Nile introduces you to an ethnic group originally from southern Egypt and northern Sudan. The experience will focus on the long history of Nubian settlements beside the Nile River and the cultural traits that made them notable, such as their skill at horse riding and their marksmanship with bows and arrows, qualities for which they were generally held in high regard as a cavalry force. You will also explore the historical connection between Nubians and ancient Egypt. Nubians typically blended and merged with Egyptians during the Pharaonic age, and a number of ancient pharaohs were of Nubian descent, so their legacy has continued to influence the region. Today there are still several Nubian communities scattered around the country, and many of these small villages have become popular with tourists. Along the way you may learn about that shared history and see how Nubian heritage is remembered in local communities.
