Overview

Heading north from Luxor, you’ll spend a day visiting two of Egypt’s most complete temples: Abydos and the Temple of Hathor at Dendara. At Abydos you’ll explore a site dedicated to the Ancient Egyptian god of the underworld. The temple’s architecture and surviving decorations reveal its long association with funerary cults and royal ritual, giving a clear sense of its religious importance. The Temple of Hathor at Dendara may be the best preserved in Egypt, with full colour still visible on its walls. As you move through the chambers and courtyards, you’ll see carved reliefs and painted scenes that show how richly decorated these sacred spaces once were. Together, the two temples offer a close look at ancient Egyptian religious architecture and artistic craftsmanship, and leave room to reflect on the beliefs and ceremonies that shaped them.
