Tour to Dendera and Abydos Temples

Overview

You will visit some of Egypt’s most ancient sites, beginning with Abydos. The temple there—built by King Seti I and completed by King Ramsess II—is known as the Temple of Seti I. Located in Abydos city, about 420 km south of Cairo in the Sohag Government and 135 km from Luxor, the site includes the Osiris Temple where paintings of gods and pharaohs are among the most beautifully preserved in Egypt. As you see the carved reliefs and coloured wall scenes, you will get a sense of the religious and artistic traditions that shaped this sacred place. You will then continue to Dendera to see the Temple of Hathor, dedicated to the goddess of love and joy. The temple stands in Dendera, which is situated north of Luxor. Along the way, you will compare the different styles and subjects of decoration at each site and gain a clearer picture of how ancient Egyptians honoured their gods and rulers through monumental architecture and temple art.
