Overview

Luxor's West Bank is a patchwork of sugarcane and banana fields, mudbrick villages and irrigation canals — and the best way to see it is from the saddle, as the working day winds down. This two-hour ride starts at the stables and heads out on well-schooled Arabian horses along dirt tracks between the fields, past farmers heading home, water buffalo, and children calling out from the villages. As you reach the riverbank, the Nile opens out ahead and the sun drops toward the Theban hills behind you, turning the water gold and silhouetting the palms and feluccas. It's an unhurried, atmospheric ride rather than a fast one — suitable for beginners as well as confident riders, with a guide alongside the whole way and horses matched to your experience. The light in the last hour before sunset is what makes it: the same glow that has drawn artists and photographers to Luxor for two centuries, seen from the quiet side of the river away from the temples and crowds. Hotel pickup and drop-off across Luxor are included, along with a short safety briefing before you mount. Bring a camera and something to cover your legs, and time the ride for the golden hour.
