Overview

A full day at sea off Marsa Alam to the horseshoe reef of Sataya — often called Dolphin House — where a resident pod of spinner dolphins gathers in the sheltered lagoon. After transfer to the harbour you board the boat and cruise out to the reef, a wide crescent of coral that encloses a calm, brilliantly clear lagoon. Spinner dolphins rest and socialise here through the day, and with luck you snorkel over the shallows as they pass beneath and around you — wild animals in their own habitat, watched on their terms rather than fed or chased. Between dolphin time the boat moves to two more snorkelling stops over healthy coral gardens, home to reef fish, and the waters of the far south sometimes bring turtles and, in the seagrass beds, the dugongs the region is known for. Snorkel gear is provided and the crew keep an eye on swimmers of every level, so confident and cautious snorkellers alike can enjoy the day. Lunch is served on board between stops, with soft drinks and time to relax on deck as the reef slips by. It is one of the Red Sea's most rewarding boat days — pristine coral, warm water and the chance to share it with wild dolphins.
