At Saqqara you’ll explore Egypt’s great necropolis, not just the Step Pyramid. As you move through the site you’ll wander into the tomb of Seshot Idut, decorated with scenes of ancient life, and admire the fine artistry inside the mastabas of Ka‑Gemni and Mereruka. You’ll also visit the pyramids of Teti and Unas, where the earliest Pyramid Texts are inscribed, and step into New Kingdom tombs that tell the stories of nobles and priests from later eras. Along the way you’ll see treasures preserved in the Saqqara Museum. The experience includes the Serapeum too: a vast underground complex that holds gigantic granite sarcophagi which once contained the sacred Apis bulls. The combination of decorated tombs, monumental pyramids, museum displays and the subterranean Serapeum gives a wide view of Saqqara’s history and atmosphere, revealing layers of funerary art, ritual texts and burial architecture across different periods.
