Saqqara, Dahshur & Memphis Day Tour

Overview

You will begin at Saqqara, home of the Step Pyramid built around 2700 BC for King Zoser of the Third Dynasty. Here you will see the early mastaba tombs that predate the pyramid form, and learn how burial design evolved before the great pyramids were constructed. Next you will visit the Dahshur area, where the pyramids of Sneferu date to about 2600 BC in the Fourth Dynasty. At Dahshur you will see three pyramids commonly known as the Red, Bent and Black pyramids, offering a clear view of different ancient building styles and techniques. The tour continues to Memphis, the ancient capital founded around 2900 BC. You will explore the remains of this old city and see its notable monuments, including a colossal statue of King Ramses II and a large curved sphinx made of Mabel stone. Along the way you will get a sense of how these early sites relate to one another in Egypt’s long architectural history.
