Overview

Your experience begins in Abydos, a site the ancient Egyptians believed to be the burial place of the god of the underworld. Here you will see the temple built by King Seti I and completed by King Ramsess II, commonly known as the Temple of Seti I. The site is in Abydos city, about 420 km south of Cairo in Sohag Government and 135 km from Luxor. Along the walls of the Osiris Temple at Abydos, the paintings of gods and pharaohs are among the most beautifully preserved in Egypt. You will then continue to Dendera to visit the Temple of Hathor, dedicated to the goddess of love and joy. The temple is located in Dendera, which is situated to the north of Luxor. As you move through these two sites, you will encounter important examples of ancient Egyptian temple art and architecture and gain a closer sense of the religious traditions that shaped them.
