Philae Temple and Aswan High-Dam Half-day tour
A trusted partner experience, hand-picked and featured on This is Egypt.
Overview
This tour takes you to two of Aswan’s most famous sites: the High Dam and the island Temple of Philae. Along the way you’ll see the vast High Dam, built across the River Nile in the 1960s to control Egypt’s annual floods. Take a moment to appreciate its scale and its role in shaping modern Egypt’s waterways. You’ll then cross to Philae by motorboat to visit the ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Isis. As you move through the courts, colonnades and inner halls, an Egyptologist guide will explain the temple’s history and architecture. You’ll also hear how the sanctuary was dismantled and reassembled on its present island to prevent submersion in Lake Nasser, and how that relocation saved important reliefs and monuments for future generations. The visit combines engineering history at the dam with detailed archaeological insight at Philae.
