Mount Sinai and Catherine's Monastery Tour from Sharm El-Sheikh
A trusted partner experience, hand-picked and featured on This is Egypt.
Overview
You will head to Moses Mountain and begin a night climb up Mount Sinai, following about 750 steps to the summit. From the top you will enjoy a panoramic view as the sun rises over the desert landscape. After sunrise you will descend towards St Catherine Monastery and spend time exploring its historic complex. The monastery includes a mosque built in the eleventh century and an Orthodox Greek monastery within its walls, together forming a citadel rich in important religious and historical structures. Inside the church you will see boxes that are said to contain the body of Saint Catherine. On the other side of the church you can find the holy valley, considered the most holy area in Sinai; it is here that God ordered the prophet Moses to “off your shoes because you stand in the holy land.” Along the way you will take in both the dramatic natural scenery and the deep religious history of the site, moving from the mountain summit to the monastery’s ancient buildings and sacred valley before the experience concludes.
