Overview

Discover two lesser-visited Cairo sites, and come away with a deeper understanding of the city’s culture and history. With a private guide, you’ll visit the Cave Church (St. Simon the Tanner Monastery), which dates back to the 10th century, along with the neighborhood of Manshiyat Nasir, dubbed Cairo’s Garbage City. You’ll see how the community have developed their skills of turning trash into practical treasure, for a smooth recycling operation.

The driver is very responsive and friendly. The drive to Garbage city is very difficult but the driver Omar did a very good job.

The guide Bisho was very knowledgeable and good on this tour about the church and the history of the religious area and life! He gave us a lot of information and we enjoyed this tour. He also took pictures during the tour. We didn’t see much of garbage city or learn too much about it.

This is a great tour to see another aspect of Cairo. The tour included a visit to Garbage City and St Simon Monastery. I was particularly taken with Garbage City where Cairo’s trash is processed. This may sound boring but it was anything but! St Simon monastery is a church built into the cliffside and is a huge cave church. I was picked up at my Airbnb by Karam, a very skillful driver who also provided great information. I highly recommend this tour.
