Overview
This experience centres on Mount Sinai (also known as Mount Moses), the most famous mountain in the Sinai Peninsula. You will learn that, according to the Bible, God appeared to Moses on this mountain and gave the Ten Commandments. Along the way you will take in the mountain’s significance and its place in religious history. On the mountain you will see the Monastery of St Catherine, set at an altitude of 1,570 metres in the valley between the mountains of Musa, Catherine and Safsaf. You will also learn that the monastery was built during the reign of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian (527–565), giving you a sense of its long historical presence in the area.
