Overview

Cross the Nile to Luxor's West Bank, the land of the dead in ancient Thebes, on a focused half-day tour built around one of Egypt's most striking monuments. The centrepiece is the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari — three great colonnaded terraces rising straight out of the golden cliffs, built for the woman who ruled as pharaoh in her own right. Your Egyptologist guide unpacks her extraordinary story: her divine-birth reliefs, the famous expedition to the land of Punt carved along the walls, and the later attempts to erase her name from history. On the way you pause at the Colossi of Memnon, the two enormous seated statues of Amenhotep III that have guarded the plain for over three thousand years and once, it was said, sang at dawn. The tour also takes you to Deir el-Medina, the remarkably preserved village of the very artisans who built and decorated the royal tombs — their own small tombs are jewel-bright with painted scenes of daily life and the afterlife. It is an unhurried morning that trades crowds for context, letting you see the West Bank through the people who created it. Air-conditioned transfers and skip-the-queue tickets keep the pace easy in the desert heat.
