Guided Day Tour in Luxor's West Bank

Overview

In the morning, after breakfast, you will be picked up by a professional English-speaking tour guide to begin a day exploring the memorial temples and tombs on Luxor’s West Bank. Along the way you will visit the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s Mortuary Temple at Deir el-Bahari, and the Colossi of Memnon, taking in the main sights and learning about their history. The Valley of the Kings contains more than sixty tombs and around twenty unfinished ones. It was used as a burial place for rulers of the Eighteenth, Nineteenth and Twentieth Dynasties of Egypt’s New Kingdom (c. 1550–1069 BC). You will learn about its location in a dry river valley across from the ancient city of Thebes, which explains its modern name. At Deir el-Bahari you will see Hatshepsut’s temple, which was dedicated to Hathor, the goddess who was thought to nurse and rear every king, including their mythological ancestor Horus. You will also stop at the Colossi of Memnon to view these famous monuments on the West Bank. If you wish, you can add an optional visit to the Nobles’ tombs or other sightseeing to extend your exploration.
