Overview

The Grand Egyptian Museum, rising on the edge of the Giza plateau, is the largest archaeological museum in the world and the new home of Egypt's greatest treasures. This guided visit skips the ticket queues and gives you an Egyptologist to make sense of a collection so vast it can overwhelm. You begin in the soaring atrium beneath the colossal statue of Ramesses II, then climb the Grand Staircase lined with kings and gods, its glass wall framing the pyramids beyond. The centrepiece is the complete Tutankhamun collection — for the first time all displayed together — from the boy king's nested golden shrines and chariots down to his jewellery, sandals and the famous funerary mask's companion pieces. Your guide draws out the stories behind the objects: how the tomb was found intact, what the treasures reveal about the eighteenth dynasty, and which pieces reward a closer look. With entry, transfers and a private guide arranged, you spend your visit among the artefacts rather than deciphering floor plans, and can linger over the galleries that interest you most. It is the essential companion to the pyramids themselves — the treasures of the people who built them, under one spectacular roof.
