Overview

This Cairo day tour takes you to the most remarkable ancient sites in the area: the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, Dahshur and Sakkara. It follows the architectural progression of pyramid building, so you will see how design changed over time. You will begin at Dahshur to view the Bent Pyramid with its unusual, change-in-angle structure, and the Red Pyramid, a large but less visited example of a true smooth-sided monument. In Sakkara you will see the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, the first attempt at a pyramid in a stepped form. As you move through these sites you will be able to track the evolution from stepped to smooth-sided designs. The tour concludes at the Pyramids of Giza, where you can take in their final, smooth-sided form and immense scale, and see the nearby Sphinx. Along the way you will observe key examples of ancient Egyptian funerary architecture and how builders refined their techniques over centuries.
