Day Trip to Wadi El Natrun from Alexandria
A trusted partner experience, hand-picked and featured on This is Egypt.
Overview
An early-morning pick-up will start your day as you head west to Wadi El Natrun. The valley lies in the Western Desert near the Nile delta, about 60 kilometres long and roughly 90 kilometres north‑west of Cairo. Along the way, you will travel into a desert landscape that frames the historic monastic sites. You will visit the Monastery of the Syrian, one of the four surviving monasteries in Wadi El Natrun, whose valuable collection of rare relics is admired for its artistic qualities. You will also stop at the Monastery of Baramous, which is thought to be the place where Macarius the Great lived around 330–340 AD. The tour includes a visit to the Monastery of St Bishoy (Dier al‑Anba Bishoy, also called Pshoi or Bishoi), the most eastern surviving Christian monastery in Wadi el‑Natrun, founded by St Bishoy. A local lunch is included during the trip. After your visits, you will be returned to your hotel.
