Overview

You will be transferred from your hotel in Hurghada to Luxor, where the city’s monumental temples and ancient sites await. As you arrive, you will see some of the largest temples in the world, with their impressive colonnades. At Karnak Temple you will stand among the huge columns — 134 in total — and see the sacred scarab that forms part of the complex’s religious symbolism. To the west of Luxor you will explore the Valley of the Kings, the burial grounds of Egypt’s rulers. The kings who reigned over Egypt believed that life after death continued, so they built tombs decorated with finely preserved reliefs and colours. You will also visit the remarkable terraced funerary temple of Hatshepsut, the mortuary temple that belonged to Queen Hatshepsut, who was regarded as the daughter of the god Amon and was the only woman to rule Egypt for 18 years. Along the way you will be taken back to the time of pharaohs and queens as you see these ancient monuments and learn about their role in Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife.
