Overview

Trade Dahab's cafes for the quiet of the Sinai coast on a relaxed, Bedouin-led camel trek out to a sheltered lagoon. Setting off from the edge of town, your Bedouin guide leads the camels along the shoreline where the desert mountains drop almost to the sea, the water shifting through turquoise and deep blue as you go. There is no rush to the pace — the camels walk steadily, giving you time to take in the coastal scenery, the empty beaches and the rugged Sinai peaks behind. At the lagoon you dismount for a swim in the calm, shallow water, a stretch of sand to yourself and sweet Bedouin tea brewed over a small fire in the traditional way. It is a gentle, genuinely local half-day, as much about the hospitality and the stillness as the ride itself, and it suits first-time riders and families. Your guide handles the camels and stays with you throughout, with a short safety briefing before you set out. Bring a swimsuit, a towel, sun protection and a little cash for anything extra, and time your trek for the softer light of the late afternoon if you can.
