You will begin a shopping tour through Cairo’s old downtown markets, starting with El Ghorya market in the historic Fatimid quarter. Along Gamalia Street you will walk near Al-Azhar Mosque and the area around Khan el-Khalili, soaking up the atmosphere of narrow lanes and traditional stalls. As you move through the old streets you will pass the traditional area of Bab Zuwayla and the gates of Bab al-Fatah and Bab el Nasr, then visit El Mosky — a busy Egyptian market known for its wide variety of goods. The tour continues into Khan el-Khalili, often described as one of the oldest and most prestigious souqs in the city. The market is said to have been built over the tombs of the Fatimid caliphs. Inside the Khan el-Khalili you will find alleys lined with traders, shops and oriels overlooking the street, plus public copper water fountains and tightly packed side streets.
