Overview

On the Ras Muhammad bus excursion you will explore Ras Muhammad (also written Ras Mohamed), a protected area that now covers about 480 km² of marine and land habitat. You will see more than 130 types of coral reef and over 1,000 types of fish as you snorkel in both the Aqaba Gulf and the Suez Gulf. Along the way you will also see mangrove plants in Ras Mohamed; the description notes these mangrove trees grow in cold water. You will visit the earthquake crack that formed in 1968, which is roughly 42 metres long and about 14 metres deep, and there is some contact between this crack and the Red Sea. You will pass the Gate of Ras Mohamed, built in 1989 and designed to look like an ancient temple to give a feeling of the holy; it is made of cement rather than stone. The excursion also includes a visit to a majestic lake near the Red Sea with a sandy beach that is described as a very good place for swimming.
