Aswan full day tour phile temple unfinished obelisk high dam

Your tour will begin at the High Dam of Aswan, completed in 1964 and regarded as an engineering marvel of the 1960s. You will see the vast structure that contains more material than was used in the Great Pyramid of Cheops. The dam stretches 11,811 ft long, measures 3,215 ft thick at the base and rises 364 ft tall. Carved from the existing granite, it plays a central role in providing irrigation and electricity for the whole of Egypt. As you move on, you will visit the granite quarries to see the Unfinished Obelisk, where much of the red granite for ancient temples and colossi was sourced. The obelisk still lies in the place where it was being carved, abandoned when a crack was discovered during hewing. Your trip will then continue to the majestic Philae Temple, which was carefully moved to its present location about 500 metres from its original site. At the end of the visit you will be escorted back to your hotel.
