The Oxford Handbook of the Egyptian Economy represents the flagship output of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy project Egypt Economic Development and Policies. The project aims to advance evidence-based research and policy dialogue to support inclusive, sustainable and resilient development in Egypt. Edited by Mahmoud Mohieldin , Marcelo Giugale and Racha Ramadan , the handbook brings together contributions from more than 69 leading economists, researchers and policymakers across 43 chapters. Covering seven decades of Egypt’s economic history, the volume examines key dimensions of development through six thematic areas: macroeconomic fundamentals; sectoral reforms and competitiveness; human development; poverty and inequality; environmental and spatial issues; and governance. The launch event will feature remarks by the AUC leadership and the handbook editors, followed by a presentation of the volume’s main findings and a discussion with distinguished experts. Bringing together academics, policymakers, development partners, donors, private sector representatives and media to reflect on the handbook’s contributions and discuss pathways toward Egypt’s future economic development.
