Luxor Day Trips from Cairo

By road Luxor is the better part of nine hours from Cairo, which is why every real day trip flies: out on a dawn departure, back in the evening, with a private guide and vehicle waiting in between. It is the most time-efficient way to stand in the Valley of the Kings while basing your whole stay in Cairo.

What you see

The core circuit covers both banks. On the West Bank, the Valley of the Kings with a walk through painted royal tombs, the terraced Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari and the Colossi of Memnon. Across the river, the vast Karnak complex, and, when the timing works, Luxor Temple as well. Lunch is usually squeezed between banks rather than lingered over: this is a day built for monuments.

Is it worth it?

If Cairo is your only base and you have one spare day, absolutely: no other single day in Egypt covers more.
