A protected wilderness coastline about 8 km north of the Blue Hole with pristine, lightly-dived reef: a shallow lagoon, coral garden, offshore reef and pinnacles. Several distinct entries exist between Abu Galum village and the Blue Lagoon, including Haggar and Khoramat. Depth 0–30 m; camel/4x4 + shore; Light to moderate; can pick up on the exposed offshore reef current; visibility 25-40 m. Ras Abu Galum Protectorate (محمية أبو جالوم), declared 1992, roughly 400 km2 of managed coastal and marine area under the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency.
