Breath-hold discipline

PADI Freediver

One breath, no tank — and Dahab is a world capital

Freediving is diving on a single breath — no tank, no bubbles, just breath-hold technique, relaxation and efficient movement. An entry-level course teaches the breathing, equalisation and safety skills to comfortably reach 10–20 metres and, just as importantly, how to buddy and keep each other safe. Dahab, home to the Blue Hole, is one of the world's great freediving destinations, with calm deep water right off the shore and a large community of schools and coaches.

What you’ll learn

Who it’s for

Anyone drawn to a quieter, more meditative way to dive — swimmers, snorkellers and scuba divers wanting a new discipline.

Where to do it in Egypt

Dahab is the standout — the Blue Hole and deep, calm shore water make it a global freediving hub. Some Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada centres also run courses.

Common questions

Is freediving safe to learn?

Learned properly, with a course that drills buddying and safety, yes. Never freedive alone — the core safety rule the course instils is one-up-one-down buddying.

Which agency for freediving?

PADI, SSI, AIDA and Molchanovs all run respected programmes in Dahab. We'll match you to a school and coach that fits your goals.
