Egypt sits closer to the UAE than most Gulf travellers realise. Cairo is under four hours' flying from Dubai, the pyramids and the Nile are the region's oldest wonders, and the Red Sea coast turns into a natural summer escape when inland heat climbs above 40°C. Whether you want a long weekend among the temples or a two-week family holiday split between Cairo and the beach, the tours below are bookable and ready to confirm. Below the grid, here is what a trip from the Emirates actually involves — flights, visas, costs and timing — so you can plan with confidence. Prices are indicative bands, not quotes; always verify at the point of booking.

Getting there: one of the busiest routes in the region

Dubai–Cairo is among the highest-frequency pairings between the two countries, with daily nonstop service on EgyptAir, Emirates, flydubai and Air Arabia. Flying time runs roughly three hours 55 minutes to four hours 15 minutes. You can depart from Dubai (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH — Etihad, Air Arabia Abu Dhabi, EgyptAir) or Sharjah (SHJ), Air Arabia's hub. For the coast, flydubai flies DXB–Sharm el-Sheikh nonstop in about four hours 50 minutes; Hurghada usually means connecting through Cairo on a domestic Air Arabia Egypt or EgyptAir hop, as no reliable year-round nonstop from the major UAE carriers is easy to find. Return economy fares typically land in the AED 400–800+ band, rising over Eid and summer.

Visas: it depends who is travelling

The rules split cleanly. Emirati and other GCC nationals are visa-exempt and can stay up to 90 days — passport in hand, nothing to arrange. Expat residents of the UAE holding a valid GCC residence permit generally get a visa on arrival, provided both the residence and passport have at least six months left; professional categories tend to be approved instantly, while some labour and domestic-worker professions may need a consular visa arranged in advance. Anyone who prefers to skip the immigration queue can buy the e-visa at the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, commonly cited at around USD 25 single-entry or USD 60 multiple-entry. From 1 August 2026, Cairo airport also offers a digital visa-on-arrival, streamlining the sticker process. Verify current fees and eligibility on the portal before you fly.

What a trip costs

Packages sold in the UAE through Musafir, dnata Travel, flydubai Holidays, Holiday Factory and Go Kite span a wide range. Entry-level flight-plus-hotel deals start around AED 1,517, mid-range Cairo or Red Sea breaks sit near AED 2,595–2,999, and premium multi-city trips with a Nile cruise can reach roughly AED 11,999. Budget separately for cash: Egypt runs heavily on baksheesh, so carry USD 200–300 equivalent in small notes for tips, souks and taxis. Cards work at upscale hotels and tour desks; cash rules everywhere else.

Best time to go

For Cairo, Luxor and Aswan sightseeing, October to April is comfortable, peaking December to February; inland summers are punishing. Summer flips the logic for the Red Sea — June to August is prime time for Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, El Gouna, Marsa Alam and Dahab, which is exactly when Gulf families head to the coast to escape the heat. Demand spikes hard around Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, the June–August school holidays and UAE National Day in early December, so book those windows early.

A family and summer-holiday market

Egypt from the Gulf skews strongly toward families. Operators build around Eid breaks and school holidays, all-inclusive Red Sea resorts do the heavy lifting, and multi-generational groups are the norm. A classic combination pairs a few days of Cairo and the pyramids with a beach stretch on the coast — culture for the adults, pools and reefs for the kids.

What to book

Think in three shapes: a short Cairo and pyramids break, a Red Sea resort stay, or the classic Cairo–Luxor–Aswan run down the river. If the Nile cruise appeals, our Nile cruise guide walks through routes, seasons and what to expect on board. Browse the tours above, check the dates against your Eid or summer plans, and book the format that fits your group.

Häufige Fragen

Do UAE nationals need a visa for Egypt?

No. Emirati and other GCC nationals are visa-exempt and can stay in Egypt for up to 90 days on their passport, with nothing to arrange in advance.

What about UAE expat residents — do we need a visa?

Expat residents holding a valid GCC residence permit generally get a visa on arrival, as long as the residence and passport each have at least six months' validity. Professional categories are usually approved instantly, while some labour and domestic-worker professions may need a consular visa arranged beforehand. You can also apply for an e-visa at visa2egypt.gov.eg, and from 1 August 2026 Cairo airport offers a digital visa-on-arrival. Verify current fees on the official portal.

How long is the flight from the UAE to Egypt?

Dubai to Cairo is about three hours 55 minutes to four hours 15 minutes nonstop, with daily service on EgyptAir, Emirates, flydubai and Air Arabia. flydubai also flies Dubai to Sharm el-Sheikh nonstop in roughly four hours 50 minutes.

How much does an Egypt trip from the UAE cost?

Packages sold in the UAE range from around AED 1,517 for entry-level flight-plus-hotel deals to AED 2,595–2,999 for mid-range Cairo or Red Sea breaks, up to roughly AED 11,999 for premium multi-city trips with a Nile cruise. Return economy flights typically sit in the AED 400–800+ band. These are indicative bands — verify at booking.

When is the best time to visit, and is summer good for the Red Sea?

For Cairo, Luxor and Aswan sightseeing, October to April is best. Summer, June to August, is ideal for the Red Sea — Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada, El Gouna, Marsa Alam and Dahab — which is when Gulf families head to the coast to escape the heat. Expect peak demand around Eid and the summer school holidays.

Is Egypt a good destination for families, and how many days should we plan?

Yes — Egypt from the Gulf is strongly a family and summer-holiday market, with all-inclusive Red Sea resorts and Eid-break packages built for groups. A popular format pairs three to four days in Cairo and the pyramids with a beach stretch on the coast, so a week to ten days works well; add a Cairo–Luxor–Aswan Nile cruise if you want closer to two weeks.
