The catch is not the distance - it is the visa, which for Lebanese nationals is the most nuanced of any nearby market and depends heavily on the traveller's age and circumstances. Flights from Beirut to Cairo

Direct Beirut (BEY) to Cairo (CAI) flights average about 1 hour 24-28 minutes. MEA (Middle East Airlines) and EgyptAir both fly the nonstop, with MEA reportedly carrying around 55% of route bookings to EgyptAir's 45% and running roughly 14 flights a week. Round-trip fares run from about USD 237 on MEA (averaging near USD 291) and from about USD 224 on EgyptAir (averaging near USD 264), with the cheapest one-ways seen around USD 116-121 (as of 2026 - verify on the airline site). Fares are quoted in USD rather than Lebanese pounds, reflecting de facto dollar pricing in Lebanon. Do Lebanese travellers need a visa for Egypt?

This is where sources conflict sharply, so treat it as unresolved and verify per traveller before booking. One authoritative reference indicates Lebanese nationals have a conditional 30-day visa exemption for those aged under 16 or over 50, plus a visa on arrival for tourism subject to conditions - such as travelling to Alexandria or South Sinai, or arriving at Borg El Arab, Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh on a charter flight. A commercial visa advisory, by contrast, states that Lebanese passport holders need a pre-arranged embassy visa, likely reflecting security screening for males of military and working age. The practical reading: young children and travellers over 50 may enter more freely, while Lebanese men aged around 16-50 commonly require prior security clearance or a pre-arranged visa. Confirm the exact rule for the traveller's age with the Egyptian consulate in Beirut. Note too that Lebanese nationals in transit may be restricted to the airside area and required to continue on the same connecting flight. Lebanese residents of the Gulf may separately qualify for the GCC-resident visa on arrival if their residency and passport are each valid six-plus months and their profession qualifies.

The new Cairo digital visa on arrival

From 1 August 2026, Cairo International Airport launched a digital visa-on-arrival pilot: eligible travellers generate a QR-code visa via an official portal, app or kiosk for a total of about USD 36 (a USD 30 visa plus USD 6 issuance), with the code expiring 48 hours after generation. Because much Lebanese eligibility hinges on age, charter and entry-point conditions - and the noted VOA conditions point to Borg El Arab, Hurghada or Sharm charters rather than Cairo - Lebanese travellers should not assume the Cairo digital VOA applies to them. When to go

The best sightseeing window is October to April, with October-November and March-April optimal at around 25-30C.
